This is not a story about a place.
It is a story about home.
A 2024 documentary by filmmaker Monear Shaer
How it started…
Gaza Is Our Home began as a personal journey to preserve memory and honor the families of Gaza. Through recovered footage, family stories, and firsthand accounts, the film captures life in Gaza beyond the headlines. It is a record of resilience, culture, and the human spirit that refuses to be erased.
Monear Shaer lost 33 members of his family, along with generations of memories tied to home and everyday life in Gaza. This loss drives the film’s mission: to document, preserve, and share the stories of Gaza’s people.
More than a film, Gaza Is Our Home is a cultural record. It exists to protect memory, challenge narratives, and create space for human connection. Each screening becomes a gathering point, inviting audiences to listen, reflect, and carry these stories forward.
The documentary continues to grow through live screenings, discussions, and community-led events. Its mission is not only to bear witness, but to ensure that Gaza’s story is remembered, shared, and never reduced to silence.
“When home is erased, memory becomes an act of resistance.”
